Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)
+Building with SIPs produces a structure that is 50% more energy efficient and 40% stronger than typical stick framing. SIPs buildings are environmentally friendly because they use less raw materials and less energy to produce than typical construction techniques. The panels are typically manufactured with a rigid form laminated between two structural skins of oriented strand board (OSB) .
Almost any house plan can be converted to SIPs construction and the cost of construction is generally the same as conventional framing. The energy savings realized with SIPs construction are significant. Our most recent project was a 2,000 sq ft house with two full-time inhabitants. It received a Five Star Plus Energy Star rating and the total anticipated energy consumption is $1,021.00/year.
